A few months ahead of the 2015 Paris Climate Conference (COP21), France’s active involvement in preparations for the Universal Exposition in Milan testifies to its commitment to changing its development model for the benefit of the environmental and energy transition. The French pavilion is exemplary in terms of the environment and energy control. The pavilion is actually a low-energy building designed to allow natural ventilation and cooling. An illustration of French expertise, combining a traditional material and cutting-edge technologies – it is made of pine from French forests, certified wood from the Jura [department]. The structure, which can be entirely dismantled, will leave no waste and can thus be re-used. The planning and design of the French pavilion, like the panel discussions organized in the framework of the Expo, reflect the themes being emphasized by the Ecology Ministry and will highlight the responses France is making to harmonize its production model with the challenges of protecting biodiversity. There will be a special focus on the fight against climate change; the role of pollinators; soil life; the protection of fisheries resources, biodiversity and genetic resources; and food waste.
